Zoom to launch B2 Four

Zoom B2 Four bass guitar multi-effects pedal amp cabinet simulator impulse response

Following on from the recent release of the G2 Four and G2X Four units, Zoom have announced the upcoming launch of the B2 Four, a multi-effects and amp simulator pedal designed specifically for bassists that combines features derived from their flagship B6 processor (reviewed in the August 2022 issue of SOS) with their latest Multi-Layer IR modelling technology.

Amp Simulation

A total of 11 faithfully reproduced models of classic bass amps are included, with the company utilising their new modelling technology to capture impulse responses at three different volume levels, with the resulting layers then triggered based on the playing level of the connected instrument. The switchable input impedance function from the B6 also makes an appearance, allowing the B2 Four to be used with acoustic and double basses in addition to standard electric instruments, and a DI emulation feature provides the sound of six different tube and solid-state Direct Injection boxes.

Effects & Presets

A variety of clean and overdriven preamp selections are on offer, allowing the pedal to cover a wide range of sonic options, and a collection of 250 presets are included to help users dive into classic tones from the 50s through to the modern day straight out of the box. A total of 104 built-in effects are provided, with users able to run any five of them simultaneously, and all-in-one jamming capabilities are provided by its on-board 60-second looper and rhythm machine equipped with 68 beats.

I/O

The B2 Four’s instrument input is provided on a quarter-inch TS socket on the device’s rear panel, with a further two quarter-inch TS connections offering a stereo output. A balanced output is also available on a three-pin XLR connector, whilst a 3.5mm mini-jack socket provides an aux input. An expression pedal can be connected to the quarter-inch TRS socket, and power is delivered via an external DC PSU. An additional mini-jack socket on the side of the device is available for the connection of headphones, along with a USB-C socket, with the pedal able to function as a 2-in/2-out USB audio interface.

The pedal measures 146 x 249 x 72 mm (depth x width x height), and weighs 906g.

Pricing & Availability

The B2 Four will be available in Q3 2023, priced at $249.99£297.60 including VAT / €327.25.
