Slash and Gibson Unveil “Jessica” Les Paul Standard Signature Model Guitar

Slash and Gibson have rolled out a new artist signature model guitar: the “Jessica” Les Paul Standard.

“Jessica” has been Slash’s main stage axe since 1988 and has been used primarily to perform songs from Guns N’ Roses‘ debut Appetite for Destruction. It was also his trusty guitar as a member of Velvet Revolver and remains his choice instrument in Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

“This guitar has been with me since 1988,” remarked Slash in a press release. “It’s faded, I fucking dropped a cigarette on it … I named it when I was drunk, but I don’t remember what the catalyst for that was!”

While not an exact replica, the new signature model is based on Slash’s original “Jessica” and features a three-piece plain maple top on a non-weight-relieved mahogany body and a mahogany neck with a ’50s Vintage neck profile.

Electronically, the body houses a pair of Custom Burstbucker pickups with Alnico 2 magnets that are hand-wired to Orange Drop capacitors. Originally a bright Cherry Sunburst, Slash had Jessica refinished, which is reflected — minus the considerable road wear on the original — in the gloss nitrocellulose Honey Burst with Red Back finish used on the new model.

Additional appointments include Slash’s signature on the truss rod cover, complimented by Slash’s familiar ‘Skully’ logo the rear of the headstock. Schaller Strap Locks are preinstalled on the guitar, and the axe is housed in a hardshell case that includes a guitar pick set, a Gibson USA leather strap, a multi-tool, and a blank truss rod cover.

“I take a lot of guitars out on the road, but this still has a very specific sound compared to all the other Les Pauls I have out there,” Slash said.
