In all honesty, the first time I booked into The Moonrise Hotel, I chose it simply because it was the closest upscale hotel to Washington University in St Louis. It is safe to say that I was very pleasantly surprised! On my second visit, I chose to come back because I completely fell in love with the place.

The unique entrance to the hotel and the names: the Moonrise Hotel and Eclipse Restaurant, only give a hint as to what fun this themed boutique hotel really has in store for its guests.

The impressive artwork in their lobby starts to suggest how well this hotel knows how to works its themes. The Art Deco, retro, and futuristic look carries on through the reception where friendly staff speedily check you in.

Accommodations

The wonderful moon theme certainly carries on into the rooms which are stocked with luxury amenities and stellar decor. I stayed in a Superior King room which offers a King Serta Enrapture double euro top pillow bed which is triple-sheeted and features luxury pillows and bedding. What more could you want?

Both the bedrooms and the bathrooms are spacious and I found the color scheme to be funky, yet warm and inviting. Two USB charging ports can be found near the bed which is very convenient. The luxury Aveda bath products are a nice touch as well.

Dining Options

When staying at the Moonrise Hotel, you have a couple dining options to choose from! You can find the Eclipse Restaurant and Bar on the first floor. Here you can enjoy a unique dining experience where their talented culinary team crafts classic American dishes with a cosmic twist. They have regularly updated menus featuring locally-sourced, organic ingredients, as well as an award-winning cocktail program full of inventive, hand-crafts drinks. This is certainly an out-of-this-world experience, especially with the moon-related memorabilia set in display cases throughout the space.

Be sure to head to the Rooftop Terrace Bar if the weather is nice from April through October. This spot offers striking panoramic views of the beautiful St. Louis skyline! I so enjoyed watching the sun disappear into the horizon on the rooftop, while sitting beneath the world’s largest roaring man-made moon.

On top of that, the Rooftop Terrace Bar is St. Louis’ most eco-friendly rooftop bar. They have an awning of glass solar panels which powers the entire rooftop! In fact, The Moonrise and Eclipse are the first restaurant and hotel roof in America made entirely of solar panels. Here they are truly committed to being one of the region’s leading eco-friendly hotels which is something I truly admire and reason enough to keep returning. Plus, their science fiction art work is fantastic!

One of the best things about Moonrise is its location just down the street from the famous Delmar Loop. This historic yet hip area was designated “One of the 10 Great Streets in America” by the American Planning Association. It really is the place to be in St. Louis!

Joe Edwards is both the developer of the hotel and the Delmar Loop. He’s also the one who is the collector and art director, someone my husband can really relate to as he is also an avid collection of Vintage Educational Technology and Playing Card Jokers.

It’s worth noting that The Moonrise has its own courtyard for parking and drop off, including a Tesla charging station! This is something I took full advantage of.

Last but certainly not least, this fun hotel is also dog friendly. They even offer amenities such as a treat and water bowl in the lobby for your furry friends.

I know this won’t be the last time I stay at The Moonrise Hotel. If you’re a fan of unique boutique hotels, this is certainly the place for you in St. Louis, Missouri!
