Dokken Announce New Album, Unveil Lead Single “Fugitive”: Stream
Glam metal veterans Dokken have announced their long-awaited 13th studio album, Heaven Comes Down, arriving October 27th. The video for the lead single “Fugitive” can be streamed now.
The track marks the first new music from Don Dokken and company in over 10 years — not counting 2020’s archival collection The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 — and it’s a valiant return. Jon Levin’s high-flying guitar work is reminiscent of Dokken’s ’80s heyday, and Don himself sounds strong and confident vocally, even if he’s an octave or two down from the falsettos he famously hit decades ago.
“The inspiration for the lyrics came from what seems to me to be an uncertain world these days,” commented Don Dokken on the track. “It’s an up-tempo Rokker as are many on the album. I don’t know what the future holds for our world, so I decided to take a step back and watch it all unfold… Yes, I guess I’ve become like many these days a fugitive from life. Hence the title!”
Heaven Comes Down was produced by Bill Palmer alongside Don Dokken, with the band’s lineup featuring Levin on guitar, Chris McCarvill on bass, and BJ Zampa on drums. For the man whose eponymous band has been shrouded in drama and hearsay over the years, the new LP is a means to look ahead: a new chapter.
“I’m so tired of hearing about the fighting and the ‘this’ and ‘that’… this is about a new record, a new record with my new band,” Don declared. “It’s been a long process, but at the end of the day, I think we have lightning in a bottle.”
To support the album’s release, Dokken are playing select US dates in the months to come, culminating with a November 18th gig at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood — the band’s old stomping grounds. Pick up tickets to select dates here.
