Britney Spears Doesn’t Want Her Memoir to “Offend Anyone”: “I Have Moved On”

Ahead of the release of her upcoming memoir The Woman in Me, Britney Spears has shared a preemptive disclosure that she didn’t aim to “offend anyone” with the tell-all book.

“My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!!” Spears wrote in an Instagram post Friday (October 20th). “That was me then … that is in the past !!! I don’t like some of the headlines I’m reading … that’s exactly why I quit the music business four years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!!”

It’s probably safe to assume that Spears is alluding to people who’ve publicly wronged her in the past, from her 13-year conservatorship under her father to members of the press who mishandled news about it. (It’s worth noting that Spears filed a cease-and-desist letter against her sister Jamie Lynn when the latter’s own memoir was published.)

Spears’ statement continued: “This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!! Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!!”

The Woman in Me is out October 24th via Gallery Books, and pre-orders are ongoing. See Spears’ post below.

The Woman in Me is already expected to cause plenty of pop culture discourse, with TMZ reporting this week that the book reveals Spears once had an abortion with Justin Timberlake.
