Garage rock duo The Kills drop by to catch up with Kyle Meredith about their latest album, God Games, and more.
Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince talk through the challenges they put in place for themselves — including picking up instruments they had never played before — when working on this new LP, as well as the magic they find in naiveté. They also speak about their choice of recording studio for their “godless spirituals,” opting for a church.
“I didn’t like the church. I didn’t like the big churchy room with the spire and the stained glass,” Jamie said of their recording location, and how they preferred the depths of the dark basement instead. “It was so much more inspiring to be in that bubble. In the basement of the church, that’s where we belong. We’re down here for a reason.”
They also discuss the 20th anniversary of their classic album Keep On Your Mean Side and the strange feelings that led to the song “103.”
