Working on ‘The Bachelorette’ Means Constantly Flying Across the World. Here’s the Gear One Producer Never Travels Without.

Each season of ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, viewers tune in for the drama, the love stories, and the travel inspiration.

Members of Bachelor Nation are currently following Bachelorette Jenn Tran’s love story, and over the past seven weeks, it has taken her and her suitors around the globe—more so than usual. After she met the contestants at a mansion near Los Angeles, they all packed up and headed straight to Melbourne, Australia. Since then, they’ve visited Auckland, New Zealand, as well as Seattle and the hometowns of the four finalists. These hometown visits are followed by a three-week grand finale, where she will narrow the group down to two suitors and ultimately decide who she would like to leave the show coupled with.

Of course, it isn’t just the contestants who go on these adventures. This season, The Bachelorette’s crew members had to take their long, 12-plus-hour filming days on the road earlier than usual, and for longer than usual. Claire Freeland, an executive producer and showrunner for the franchise, has been part of the team for nearly two years and before that produced the Canadian edition of the franchise for about 10 years. In 2023, Freeland worked on four of the franchise’s shows, including Bachelor in Paradise and The Golden Bachelor, and was by her estimation away from her Los Angeles home for five months.

So we thought she would be particularly well suited to talk about everything she relies on when she’s out on the road for four to 10 weeks at a time, since she has had to learn to pack as efficiently as possible for long trips going from climate to climate.
