Street photography as a creative outlet for mental health

Many photographers see the street photography as an outlet for artistic self-expression. But it also often provides a mental health benefit for some bright but sometimes restless minds. This is what UK-based photographer Sean Tucker wanted to bring to light in his video above.

He introduces us to Edinburgh doctor and street photographer Pete Wands, and how street photography benefits his mental health. As with many photographers, picking up a camera and making images out of it is a form of meditation for him, and thus helps him decompress mentally. Tucker figured it’s something that would resonate with everyone, so he wanted to share Wands’ story and creative process. Of course, his photographs too.

So, what’s your street photography story? How does it help your mental health? Tell us about it in the comments below, or in our group discussion if you’re already part of the Photofocus Community!
