How to create painterly woodland photos

Do you often find yourself mesmerized with painterly woodland photos like those of Nigel Danson? Ever wanted to also create them yourself? Well, you’re in luck! The UK-based landscape photographer recently shared how he captures these dreamy, misty scenes and brings them to life with the help of Lightroom and Photoshop techniques.

In the video above, Danson explains how his painterly woodland photos are a combination of the right conditions and the right Lightroom and Photoshop techniques. For those who are curious, he also mentioned some of his key influences for this landscape photography style. These include landscape painters like Casper Friedrich, John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough and James Thomas Watts.

Apart from the editing tips themselves, Danson also gave some useful suggestions on the lighting conditions in the room that you’re editing your photos in. These will make sure that you’re not editing your photos to be too bright. Another tip is ensuring that your monitor is properly calibrated before you begin editing. This way, you can make sure that your photos will have the most accurate colors.
