Every so often, the acting world births a new rising star that makes his or her way to their acclaimed spot of fame. Since 2017 was a killer year for film, we couldn’t help but take note of the number of new movies we’re looking forward to this year. As it turns out, the cast list for some of the most exciting upcoming releases spotlight incredibly fresh talent. See who we’re keeping an eye on below, and don’t forget their names or faces—you’re about to see them everywhere.
1. Timothée Chalamet
At just 22, this New York native is already making waves as one of Hollywood’s youngest male actors after his heartthrob role in Call Me By Your Name, which he stars in alongside the dreamy Armie Hammer. Chalamet is nominated for Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards, and is the youngest face in this category. Recently, he was interviewed by the one and only Frank Ocean, who has since become one of his biggest fans.

2. Storm Reid
Starting her career at age three, Reid has starred in countless TV movies. Her breakout role came when she was 10, where she starred in the Academy Award-winning film 12 Years a Slave with the likes of Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti, and Michael Fassbender. Now 14, she most recently appeared in Jay-Z and Beyonce’s short film Family Feud, for Jay’s release of 4:44. We know she’s up next to earn her spotlight in Hollywood.

3. Lucas Hedges
Hedges is another young rising star from two of 2017’s best drama films, Lady Bird andThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, both of which have multiple nominations at this year’s Academy Awards. Hedges, who’s 21, already has an Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar nomination under his belt for his performance in 2016’s Manchester By The Sea. With an already impressive resume, we’re sure we haven’t seen the last of him.

4. Katherine Langford
Despite the controversies of teen series 13 Reasons Why, Langford, 21, made her way to the spotlight with her breakthrough role as Hannah Baker. She’s already on her way to bigger and better things.

5. Tye Sheridan
Sheridan’s first feature film debut was in Terrence Malick’s experimental drama film, The Tree of Life. He had his first leading role in Jeff Nichols’s film Mud, which won him an Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award in 2014. Sheridan’s breakthrough role was with Bryan Singer’s X-Men series, Apocalypse as Cyclops where he acted alongside massive stars like Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and Evan Peters. Following his role in X-Men: Apocalypse, Sheridan was awarded Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performance at 21.

6. Kathryn Newton
This 21-year-old Emmy-winning actor is best known for her role as Louise Brooks in the CBS television series Gary Unmarried, as well as for her role as Alex Nelson in the 2012 feature film Paranormal Activity 4, which earned her the 2013 Young Artist Award for Best Leading Young Actress in a feature film. More recently, she starred in HBO’s smash hit Big Little Lies, alongside an all-star cast that included Nicole Kidman, Shaliene Woodley, Reese Witherspoon, and Zoe Kravitz.

7. Tom Holland
Most of you may have only seen Holland for the first time in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming with Zendaya, Michael Keaton, and the one and only Robert Downey Jr. Holland received his first Empire award at 21 for one of his earlier projects, The Impossible, then later received a BAFTA Rising Star award in 2017. For his Spider-Man role, he was recently nominated for Teen Choice Summer Male Actor.

8. Florence Pugh
Pugh is a U.K. gem that has worked on many projects involving her first major film The Falling (2014). Now 22, she has just recently starred in Richard Eyre’s BBC TV film as Cordelia of Shakespeare’s King Lear. Critics are saying she’s bound to be the next young Kate Winslet—well-spoken and incredibly admirable. After all, film—just like fashion—is a cycle of endless icons.

Besides starring in various TV series and short-films, 28-year-old Kaluuya became Get Out’s breakthrough star. He’s also starring in this year’s highly anticipated Black Panther. In the last few years alone, he has been nominated for endless awards, including Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Golden Globes, and Independent Spirit Awards. Most notably, he’s up for Best Actor in a Leading Role at this year’s Academy Awards (the same category as and second youngest to Timothée Chalamet). Although he is mostly known for his television roles, we know he’s only getting started, and we can’t wait to see what else he has in store.

10. Olivia Cooke
With brilliant work in projects such as Bates Motel, this 24-year-old U.K. star will be working with Olivia Wilde and Samuel L. Jackson on her next project, a documentary film called Life Itself, both written and directed by Dan Fogelman (This is Us, Cars, Tangled).

11. Anya Taylor-Joy
If you’ve seen the critically acclaimed Split, you might remember 21-year-old Taylor-Joy, who played Casey Cooke. Her role in the horror film, The Witch earned her an Empire Award for Best Female Newcomer. She also appeared in Lady Bird with the aforementioned Timothée Chalamet, Lucas Hedges, and Kathryn Newton.
