Cory Finley joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the new movie Landscape with Invisible Hand, which tells the story of an occupying alien species’ bureaucratic rule leaving most of Earth impoverished and the two teenagers who hatch a risky plan to ensure their families’ futures.

The director/screenwriter discusses why he chose to adapt the M.T. Anderson book; the sci-fi movies of the ’80s and indie cinema of the ’90s that influenced him; and casting Tiffany Haddish, Kylie Rogers, Asante Blackk, and Josh Hamilton.

“I try and be be very instinctive with casting,” he explains. “With Tiffany, it was a straight offer; we just sent her the script. She’s someone I’ve wanted to work with since Girls Trip. I just think she’s a comic genius and has underrated dramatic chops as well.”

Finley also digs into why the aliens are obsessed with 1950s American television, his own dark view of the future and AI, and the music that soundtracks the film.
