7 ways to troubleshoot if BeReal is not working

  • If BeReal is not working for you, check your internet connection, restart the app, and clear the app’s data cache.
  • BeReal is a relatively new social media app, and like any app, is prone to occasional glitches.
  • Here are the top seven troubleshooting tips to try when BeReal is not working.

BeReal is a new take on social media, in which you post an unfiltered (literally — the app has no filters) in-the-moment photo when the app notifies you that it’s time for a candid. It’s intriguing, but there are times when the app simply doesn’t work as expected. Here are seven of the most common ways to troubleshoot and solve your problem when BeReal is not working.

Check your internet status

The most common problem people have with the BeReal app isn’t related to BeReal at all — it’s a poor internet connection. To post to BeReal or to see other people’s posts, you need to be reliably connected via cellular or Wi-Fi. Check your wireless status at the top of your phone’s screen.

If you’re using a public Wi-Fi network, a spotty connection might be keeping the app from working properly. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see the Control Center or shortcut panel and tap the Wi-Fi icon to disable it. Then try using BeReal again.

Restart the BeReal app

It’s possible that it really is the BeReal app that’s misbehaving. If so, this easy fix often works: Just force the app to close and then restart it. Here is how to close an app on Android and how to close an app on iPhone. After you close BeReal, just start it again.

Sign out and back in again

There could also be something awry with the way the app is accessing your account. This is often an intermittent problem and easily fixed by logging out of your account, and then signing back in again. In the BeReal app, tap your account icon at the top right, then tap the three-dot menu. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Log Out. Confirm this is what you want to do, and then log back in again afterwards.

Clear the BeReal app’s cache

Occasionally, apps on your phone can misbehave because their data cache can contain corrupted data. The fix is relatively simple. If you are using BeReal on an iPhone, you should uninstall the app and then reinstall it from the App Store. If you have an Android device, you can clear the cache without removing the app. Start the Settings app and tap Apps. If necessary, tap See all apps and then tap BeReal. Tap Storage & cache, and the tap Clear cache followed by Clear storage

Restart your phone

If nothing else has worked so far, you might need to restart your phone. This can flush out any temporary software issues that are preventing BeReal from working properly. You can turn off most Android phones by holding the power button for several seconds, or you can swipe down from the top of the screen to see the shortcuts panel and tap the power icon. If you have an iPhone, here’s how to restart it regardless of which iPhone model you own.

Reinstall the BeReal app

You have one last resort: uninstalling and reinstalling the BeReal app. This can not only clear out any corrupted data associated with the app, but might solve problems caused during the app’s installation — and when you reinstall it, you’ll get the latest version of the app, complete with any updates that could solve issues with the app. Here is how to uninstall an app on an iPhone, and here’s what you need to know to uninstall apps on Android. After uninstalling the app, reinstall it from your phone’s app store.

The problem is with the BeReal online service

If you’ve tried everything in this article and BeReal is still not working properly, the most likely reason is that BeReal’s online service is temporarily offline. BeReal should be working properly the majority of the time, but it’s always possible you’ve encountered an issue. There’s not much you can do except wait. You can check BeReal’s Twitter feed to see if the app is reporting any issues, or just check back later in the day to see if service has been restored.
